Note: Setting the 4 digit year display in Control Panel/Regional
not necessary for year 2000 compliance. Changing this setting affectsonly
the way dates are displayed. Although a 2 digit year display is thedefault
Windows setting, all dates are handled internally using 4 digit years.original

The WIN98 which came on my laptop is as Rick's Win98SE below (I still
changed it to specify a 4 letter year).
The WIN 95 on my desk-top has all MS issued updates and is as the
twopost described : 2 letter year (the default) and no setting for
interpreting years after 2000 ( I changed this as recommended).

I just looked at this. In my Control Panel|Regional Settings|Datewindow
there is a setting ABOVE the one indicated below which states that a
(adjustable)digit year will be interpreted as a year between 1930 and
that2029.
I've loaded Win98 SE, so I don't know if this is the case in regularWin98.
Win95 seems to have the problem stated below although I don't know
some
of the Y2K updates issued by M$ haven't fixed this internally.
