that one i always have believed.  paper is harder to cut than most fabrics.
more wear against the cutting edges, i supposed.

but beard hair (how's this for a blatant generality?) is tougher than leg
hair, and should have more wearing effect.  if it were corrosion, then time
alone would cause the dulling.
