Not so! (at least according to those who espouse Maxwell's explanation!!!!)

I personally think YOUR explanation will work quite well and that
Maxwell was suffering a bit mentally and emotionally in his later
years. But not EVERYBODY will be willing to question the writing of
one so great as J.C. Maxwell himself.

(ANYBODY with the initials J.C. sets himself up as a suitable object
of skepticism in MY book)
