I missed this conversation, but no matter, as I have nothing to add about graphing.  

However, for a time I was an amateur horologist and spent considerable time experimenting with pendula.

Several mechanics texts describe the spring oscillator coupled to a pendulum via support of the pendulum.  I built that apparatus.  The most accessible version is posted here.
