translate please? fingo?
The word "fingo" has the same roots as the modern English word "feign".
The whole phrase could be translated "I don't cobble up hypotheses."
The context was that somebody had asked him *how* did the earth pull on the
moon. He responded that he wasn't going to say how it pulled. He would
only say that it did pull, and how much it pulled.
The pull occurs, whether or not you have a hypothesis as to the reason or
the mechanism.
