I know I've mentioned this a few years ago, but the below comment allows me
to say it again.

My father had a similar experience regarding his spring winding wrist watch;
while volunteering at the local science exploratorium.  The interesting item
was that the kids thought the spring wind up was better and new technology
than those watches that had batteries that went dead and had to be replaced.
