Al Bartlett on Growth

Several years ago (11/7/97), in response to a Phys-L post by George Spagna:

"I seem to have misplaced the URL for Al Bartlett's talk on
exponential growth (the one he gave at the Denver meeting).

I gave a URL which is now defunct.

Fortunately for fans of Al Bartlett, that URL has effectively been
replaced by <http://lahr.org/john-jan/growth/bartlett.html>. At
that URL one finds:

1. ARITHMETIC, POPULATION, AND ENERGY (A popular lecture)

2. BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

3. The text of a few of publications.

A. REFLECTIONS ON SUSTAINABILITY, POPULATION GROWTH, AND THE
ENVIRONMENT - REVISITED

B. IS THERE A POPULATION PROBLEM?

C. THE NEW FLAT EARTH SOCIETY

D. REGIONWIDE PLANNING WILL MAKE THE PROBLEMS WORSE

E. THE MASSIVE MOVEMENT TO MARGINALIZE THE MODERN MALTHUSIAN MESSAGE

F. BIGGER ISN'T BETTER IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS

G. TURNPIKE SPAWNS GROWTH, TAXES, POLLUTION

Reference 3A above is essentially Bartlett's Denver talk.

In my opinion, Bartlett's clear and incisive analyses are refreshing
antidotes for the political blather which now engulfs us. Of course,
the latter is really our own fault as teachers for not better
educating the general population.
