OK, so let's get back to the original question: Can energy flow? Or more
to the point, does it cause students difficulty if we use that terminology?

Since energy is a locally conserved quantity it can be modelled
by a continuity equation. Referring to "energy flow" is no more
reprehensible than calling both light and tsunamis "waves". They
share important formal similarities, that's all.
